A great history: From 1983 to 2005 to 2020

Sharon began her career in 1983 at McKim. One of her responsibilities at the time was managing a complex national co-op advertising program for more than 2000 investment advisors with client Investors Group. In 1990 she went to work at one of the top independent media shops in Winnipeg – Corporate Media Services (CMS). There, she worked directly with clients such as Robin’s Donuts, Ceridian Canada, CAA Manitoba, Standard Radio, Manitoba Hydro, Perkins Restaurants, Winnipeg REALTORS, and Rice Financial Group, to name a few.

She returned to McKim in 2005 to manage provincial and community-focused initiatives for Manitoba Lotteries Corporation. During this time, she also provided media planning and buying support for McKim clients like Federated Co-operatives, Polo Park Shopping Centre, Warehouse One and Astral Media.

In late 2007, Sharon started her own company, Strategic Media Solutions Inc., where she steadily built a strong portfolio of community-focused clients. She also provided media services for the clients of local creative agencies, including Booth University College, Canadian Mennonite University, The Manitoba Museum, Children’s Dental World, Gateway Autobody, Winnipeg Real Estate News, the Association of Manitoba Municipalities and the Assiniboine Park Conservancy.

Negotiator, innovator, leader

A tenacious negotiator, Sharon has maximized results and secured additional exposure for many national and regional accounts — brokering both media bonuses and promotional support. A few of Sharon’s career highlights to date:

  • generating solid awareness and driving strong sales for retail clients such as: Robin’s Donuts, Warehouse One, Federated Co-op and Ashley Furniture
  • launching the Park’N Fly brand at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, creating 50 per cent year-over-year growth in sales in the first two years, and increasing online sales by more than 50 per cent
  • driving awareness for Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s capital campaign — helping it surpass its fundraising goal of $2M within two weeks
  • collaborating with the marketing team at the Manitoba Museum to help it reach its 80,000th visitor goal in just six months.

Sharon also facilitated the Media Buying Course at the Advertising Association of Winnipeg for five years. She employed her media expertise and mentoring and communications skills teaching media basics to a variety of adult students, from business owners and general managers to marketing directors and sales representatives.
